Graduates in Accounting

Is this programme for me?

The programme is suitable for graduates of any discipline who, for professional or personal reasons, wish to secure a stand-alone qualification in accounting. It is also ideal for those who wish to undertake postgraduate work and whose first degree is in an unrelated field.

Programme aims

To provide a thorough grounding in the principles of accounting, looking at the subject from a variety of perspectives including the international dimension.

Programme structure

To complete the programme you must pass four full units (or the equivalent).

Flexible study at a reasonable cost

You have between 1-5 years to complete the programme. The total fee payable to the University is £1,099 if you complete in the minimum study period.

  • Strategies for success – an academic advice and study skills handbook containing information about study techniques, planning your studies, making the best use of resources and preparing for examinations.
  • Student handbook.
  • Subject guides (offering advice on how to use textbooks).
  • Past exam papers and Examiners' reports - these resources are updated annually and are available to download.
  • Regulations.

Study support and online resources

You can either study independently at a pace that suits you, or enrol for additional classes at a local institution (either full time or part time) and benefit from the more formalized support this provides.

  • LSE arranges a Study weekend in February each year. This consists of short courses desgined to help you with examination preparation and technique. You will also have the opportunity to discuss your studies with subject specialists.
  • LSE also runs a Summer School each year, usually from July to mid-August, to which all students are welcome.
  • Online resources including Examiners' reports and past exam papers, the Student handbook, Regulations, unit information sheets, reading lists, a ‘News and notices’ section. It also contains the first four chapters of subject guides for most units. On registering you will also gain access to the Virtual Learning Environment.
  • Online Library giving access to Justis.com, JSTOR, ABI/INFORM, Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier.

Diploma in Accounting

Suitable for candidates who:

  • intend to perform assistant accountant duties such as supervision and control of accounting systems, maintaining internal control systems, preparation of financial statements for reporting entities, analysis of business performance, preparation of tax returns and management of small teams; or
  • are already working in the industry and wish to obtain the qualification to broaden their knowledge and career prospects or wish to articulate to Advanced Diploma of Accounting or degree programs.

This course will equip you with:

  • the ability to process payrolls and business tax requirements, prepare financial reports, operational budgets and income tax returns;
  • the skills to manage budgets and forecasts and monitor corporate governance activities;
  • the knowledge to administer accounts payable and establish and maintain accounting information systems;
  • the understanding of how to implement and maintain internal control procedures;
  • the aptitude to monitor corporate governance activities.

Study Pathways

As a graduate of this course you will be granted full credit towards the Advanced Diploma of Accounting.

COURSE DELIVERY AND DURATION

AIFA ensures you can complete your qualification in the shortest possible timeframe;

  • Our 4-Term year and intensive training methods allow qualification completion in half the time compared other training institutions (such as TAFE and others).
  • Also, we recognise the skills and knowledge you have gained through your work experience and/ or previous studies. Where appropriate, we give you credits towards your qualification. Those who have extensive experience in their field can complete the entire qualification by assessment through our Assessment Centre.

Classroom Part-time:

Completed Certificate IV in Financial Services - Accounting or Bookkeeping plus:

  • Class attending 8 hours per week for 4 Terms of 11 weeks; and
  • Private study approximately 8-12 hours per week.

Classroom Full-time:

Completed Certificate IV in Financial Services - Accounting or Bookkeeping plus:

  • Class attending 16 hours per week for 2 Terms of 11 weeks; and
  • Private study approximately 16-20 hours per week.

Distance Education

  • Submit assessments at your own pace; complete qualification within 12 to 24 months.

Recognition of Previous Study and Experience at our Assessment Centre

  • CREDIT TRANSFER: If you have previously completed relevant competency units at any RTO, AIFA will give you credit transfers towards your qualification. Please indicate on your enrollment form your request for RPL – Credit Transfer. Credit Transfer will reduce the time required to complete a qualification.
  • CURRENT COMPETENCY AND EXPERIENCE: AIFA has established an Assessment Centre to allow assessment of candidates with relevant work experience and competencies. Candidates can complete the entire qualification by assessment through our Assessment Centre.

Accounting Diploma

This is a 30 credit program which consists of 2 co-requisite courses, 6 required courses and 4 complementary courses. The program provides a broad-based accounting education for university graduates which will help prepare them for admission to the CA, CGA and CMA professions as well as for positions as an accountant in the industry.
